Apatow-style where art thou?[edit]

I do not observe the existence of any references to the "Apatow Style" anywhere on the internet (and usually you can find just about anything somewhere on the internet). Furthermore, no references have been provided for the introduction of a novel subcategory such as this ("The Apatow Style").

Currently there seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding sexism and discriminatory practices within Apatow's films. This section seems to be somewhat reactionary to such accusations. It appears to have been written by someone who either really likes his movies or quite possibly shared a dorm room with him in college. Why is Apatow being credited for films he didn't even create, and by whom? (I don't think the directors, producers, writers, etc. of other films would like to be associated with he sexist accusations being leveled against Apatow.) Sexism Section[edit]

Two days ago someone deleted the entire sexism sections....

Whoever did this noted that I was making "negative" comments against Apatow. There are many positive comments, and I don't think that a little bit of balance is at all inappropriate. Over the last few months, I have contributed a lot to this section, along with many others, and I believe that it is extremely well documented and footnoted.

If anyone wants to argue the validity of these references or provide additional references which contradict the facts provided, I will not try to delete such references.

The section isn't perfect, but I don't believe it deserves to be expunged.

In it's current incarnation, the section reads:

I don't know who deleted this section the first time, but I just deleted it (along with the "pro-life" section). After looking at the Knocked Up article, I realized both sections were copied and pasted from that article. Reading these sections, one can tell that they both are about the press and others accusing the film Knocked Up of being sexist or having pro-life themes -- not Apatow. Unless you can find specific instances of people accusing Apatow of being pro-life or sexist, those sections don't belong here. They belong in the Knocked Up article... where they came from. A similar section has again been added to the article, [[1]], and I don't think it is appropriate. Framing a whole section and multiple subsections in terms of Criticism, instead of critical or academic analysis of his work and themes seems like Non-neutral approach to a encyclopedic biography article. (The section also fails to offer any counterpoints, I'm sure Apatow must have responded to at least some of those criticisms, but rather than searchign for those responses I think the whole section is taking the wrong approach.)
A more appropriate section would be to explore the Themes of his films, and with the release of The King of Staten Island it has become clearer that theme of "immaturity" is a consistent through-line in his work (with characters becoming struggling and progressing by the end of the films) . The criticism of Apatow is a reflection of those themes, and it be a lot more fair to judge his work in terms of what he was trying to do and if he succeeded or not. I find the "Criticism" section problematic as a whole. It seems like a WP:COATRACK approach that violates WP:STRUCTURE. I was going to say it should be folded into the "Career" section, but it is pretty loaded and sorted chronologically. A better overall approach would be an overview-type section assessing Apatow's approach to his comedy films. It seems like that could encompass whatever commentary has been had about that as a whole. That would include aspects like sexism, for which I do see some reliably-sourced coverage for summarizing discussion. Looking at it more closely a revert wont work, more extensive changes would be necessary. I see that User:The_One_I_Left moved a few things around (making it difficult to see what really changed), and took a subsection called "Debate" and moved it up into a top level section called "Criticism", but did not substantially change the content that was already included in the article. -- 109.76.195.183 (talk) 19:07, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For anyone else wondering what this was supposed to mean I will try to explain. See also Talk:Talladega_Nights:_The_Ballad_of_Ricky_Bobby
Basically while publicizing Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby Ferrel mentioned that Anchorman and Talladega could be thought of as the first two parts of a trilogy and that they would have to make a third film (they haven't). Those were both Apatow produced Ferrell/McKay films.

Superfreaks?[edit]

Since there was no cite with the "superfreaks" mention, I searched for a while and have been unable to find any mention of "superfreaks" being the new "frat pack." I have never heard of "superfreaks," period. If it is reinserted, there needs to be citation. Trilogy[edit]

Apatow created a trilogy with 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and finally Funny People. He represents three stages of life; Sex, Marriage, & Death. I noticed him referencing this on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on July 29, 2009. It was nowhere on the page, so I thought I'd put it here. If anyone has more info and wants to add it to the page. Feel free.

"comedy-style films"[edit]

From the article: "He is best known for producing a distinct series of critically and commercially successful comedy-style films,...".

Judd gets lucky enough to meet ShayCarl[edit]

Shaycarl is a famous video blogger and he has two channels. 1 for skits and the other for daily video blogging. On the 26th of september judd apatow bumped into shaycarl while shay was video blogging with his family in a shopping mall. Judd was so excited to meet shay he asked if his family would like to join his for dinner but shaycarl didnt think he was serious and left him waiting at the restaurant oops shays bad. anyway the shaytards youtube channel has 131,678 subscribers and he gets millions of views on each video. I think this is very noteworthy because shay is very well known on the internet and since wikipedia is part of the internet it must do its duties and report what happened on this glorious day. Error in awards section.[edit]

The article mentions that Judd was nominated for a Grammy for co-writing the song "Walk Hard" in 1999; the movie and song didn't come out until 2007!! Error? Or blatant sabotage?

Apatow doesn't have a Producer credit for "Can A Song Save Your Life"[edit]

Clear up confusion about Apatowverse?[edit]

On Rose Byrne’s Wikipedia page, a quote is given: “Byrne's emergence as one of the brightest stars in the Apatowverse…” The word Apatowverse redirects to Judd Apatow’s Wikipedia page, but I do not see anything about it.
